New Resident | Ladies of the Press

We're excited to offer ladies of the press* our 3rd residency slot. They will be in residence ready for the launch of our programme this April. We look forward to their creative presence and their inspiring workshops:

Čavić & O'Drobinak, aka the ladies of the press* is an arts publisher run by two artists: Ana Čavić and Renée O’Drobinak. We are a compact publishing unit dedicated to producing “performative” publications that thrive on collaboration, extending the performative action of the work of art into the realm of print. With each publishing project we endeavour to site the performance on the page while examining our interchanging roles as artists, editors and curators.Re-imagining the role of the publisher as a theatrical persona , our collaboration focuses on enacting a publication. The ladies of the press pulls off the various roles of a publishing house, ranging from the researcher to the distributor, highlighting the behind-the-scenes of the production process. Our goal is to become a sustainable art/publishing practice that retains the freedom to print what otherwise finds itself in the margins.

Publications | Photographers & Writers

We have been extending our programme to include a publication, providing key documentation to the events at Whitechurch Lane.

However, we want to develop the publication to exist as a body of work, moving away from the formal structure of an archive, allowing for the publication to take on a creative format in itself. Each month we will invite a new photographer, a new critic and writer to take residence as part of our monthly exhibition programme. The photographer is encouraged to document the event in line with their work, allowing for each recording to be a personal extension to their work. Critics and writers will be offered a platform to publish their writings, exposing them to a National audience and established professionals.

We have just confirmed participation from the up and coming photographer, Inzajeano Latif. Latif is exhibiting as part of the Taylor Wessing Prize 09 at the National Portrait Gallery, you can view his work on www.npg.org and on all promotional material for the prize. Latif will be taking residence at Whitechurch Lane in our programme for July 2010.
